We’re delighted to announce Her Majesty The Queen will continue as patron of The National Youth Orchestra. We’re grateful for Her Majesty’s continued recognition of our work providing thousands of young people with life-changing opportunities to play their part through orchestral music.

The announcement follows a review of Patronages undertaken by Buckingham Palace on the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation. Royal patronage highlights the achievements and vital work of many organisations across a range of sectors.

This continues The Royal Family’s long-standing support for The National Youth Orchestra with Royal Patronage first awarded in 1953 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. In 2004, we were awarded the Queen’s Medal for Music to recognise 64 years of outstanding achievement by Britain’s teenage musicians. The Queen’s Trust was the very first supporter of NYO Inspire, a free programme that has provided 5000 young people who face barriers to musical progression, with opportunities to develop through orchestral music.

Since 2004, Her Majesty The Queen has championed our work, meeting many NYO musicians along the way. Her Majesty The Queen even took part in our Ode to Joy campaign bringing hope to the nation over lockdown.

Sarah Alexander OBE, CEO and Creative Director at The National Youth Orchestra said: “We’re delighted that Her Majesty The Queen’s is continuing her close association with The National Youth Orchestra at an exciting time for the organisation, as we look to bring opportunity for creativity and self-expression to thousands more young people through orchestral music.”
