Being part of the audience at NYO’s ‘Run Riot’ concert in 2022 encouraged Ellie to audition for the NYO Orchestra. She says:
It was one of the most exciting performances I’ve ever seen. I left the hall exhilarated and feeling truly alive and this encouraged me to apply for NYO.
Ellie started out playing violin and piano, and then picked up the trombone in Year 5. She describes joining the National Children’s Orchestra as “a catalyst for my development both as a person and player”. It gave her the first experience of a full orchestra, adapting to its challenges, such as “rest counting, finding your way back when lost, and looking at the conductor even when my part was challenging”.
She describes how “brass playing is often a male-dominated space” and so was proud to play in an all-female wind band to celebrate 100 years of women’s suffrage.
Ellie says about NYO:
Here, I enrich myself musically and share my passion of music with others, and simply enjoy being a part of something bigger than myself
