Prince first picked up the double bass when he was 13. He wanted to play an instrument that resembled him. The double bass just seemed to fit his tall frame and deep voice.
He made incredible progress, reaching grade 7 standard in just two years. Coming to an NYO Inspire Day helped Prince take his playing to the next level and connect with other young musicians.
He said:
Usually I’m the only bassist there. At Inspire I got to meet a much more experienced bassist than me which gave me more experience
He loved coming together with musicians from across the UK to play and learn together. Prince felt nervous on the way to Blackpool for the Inspire Day. He said:
I was over-thinking it, telling myself ‘I’ve only been playing for two years, I don’t think I can do this’, but everyone there was very supportive, and I was able to connect with people from all over the UK. From this experience I’ve learned that you need to come out of your comfort zone
Prince continues to practise hard and is looking forward taking part in more Inspire activity and applying to join the NYO Orchestra.
