NYO makes an explosive return to live music-making with conductor Holly Mathieson and virtuoso violinist Francesca Dego. Music is the lifeblood of hope and a place where our darkest fears may be confronted and overcome. CHANT is an exuberant new commission from Laura Jurd that makes hope a communal reality. In Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, a sweet folk-like lyricism confronts an anxious sense of the real. Anna Clyne’s Sound and Fury is a riveting evocation of a world drained of hope. Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 is a musical vision of sublime light and fearful dark, where hope struggles with horrid foreboding.
