We’re delighted to announce the arrival of the next generation of changemakers in orchestral music. Teenage musicians from every corner of the UK — from Guernsey to Aberdeen — are ready to play their part as musicians and role models in the Orchestra of 2025.
The musicians will bring fresh energy to epic masterworks, and perform cutting-edge new works from contemporary composers in the country’s most iconic concert venues and across schools and youth spaces nationwide.
“I want to show music is accessible to everyone. I started the violin relatively late and my family did not have exposure to classical music. By joining an orchestra and being inspired by my friends and peers around me, I worked hard and fell in love with the violin. Through NYO Inspire and outreach projects, I want to share my passion for orchestral music with other young musicians.” Hiya, Violin, Cardiff
“I’m looking forward to the energy of live performances and the joy that comes from connecting with others through music. It’s a privilege to be able to inspire other young people, giving them a chance to experience the magic of orchestral music.” Alasdair, Oboe, Dunbar
We’re committed to fostering an inclusive and representative teenage community. 52% of NYO and NYO Associate musicians come from state schools and 35% are Black, Asian and ethnically diverse. The Orchestra is a powerful reflection of the diversity and potential of young people across the UK. For the 2025 season, 50% of leadership roles within the Orchestra are held by female musicians.
48% of the Orchestra of 2025, including NYO Associates, are alumni of NYO Inspire, a free programme for young people who want to make music a bigger part of their lives but face barriers and a lack of opportunity to progress. NYO Associates are identified during the audition process, as brilliant, driven musicians who would thrive from the opportunity to broaden their musical experience with the Orchestra.
The first activity of 2025 will be NYO Unite, where the entire NYO community of teenage musicians join together for a series of music making activities across the UK, alongside young musicians in their local area.
In January, the Orchestra of 2025 will embark on the Illuminate tour in London, Coventry and Nottingham, playing extraordinary orchestral music to audiences across the country. Don’t miss out, tickets are now on sale and Free for Teens.
