Over 6 days in October, The National Youth Orchestra brought together over 2,000 music lovers to play, share and connect through music.
NYO Unite was our biggest ever musical adventure. In Northampton, Bristol, Brighton, London, Lancaster and Barnsley, our new Orchestra musicians joined with Inspire musicians and local teenagers to enjoy a series of day-long music making activities. At the end of each day, they performed for friends, family and supporters, playing music including Aaron Copland’s Rodeo and more.
"I really enjoyed the NYO Unite day in London as I got to play brilliant music with people my own age and of such a high standard. A highlight was rehearsing as a woodwind section to make a united sound before putting this into practice in the performance."
Evan Badcock, teenage musician
With school music budgets under strain, it’s more important than ever for The National Youth Orchestra to provide more free musical adventures for young people, through the generosity of our supporters.
Unite marked the start of a year of incredible musical activity for the nation’s teenagers. The 158 teenage musicians in The Orchestra play their part as inspirational changemakers, through performances, sharing and exchanging skills and by shaping the future of orchestral music. In January, they will be performing their Winter concert series and taking their instruments in to local primary schools to inspire many more young people.
NYO’s Inspire programme is open all year round. Inspire musicians will come together again for ensembles in the new year, playing and having fun in groups.
