In memory of John Ludlow

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of John Ludlow. John was the founder leader of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 1948, and went on to become leader of various orchestras including the then Sadler’s Wells Opera Orchestra and was a professor of the Royal College of Music for nearly 30 years.

John continued to support NYO throughout his life, not only as a donor, but also through helping Roberto Ruisi, the youngest ever leader of NYO from 2012-14, who was recently announced as the new leader of the Halle. Roberto and John attended the same school in Birmingham and John saw a lot of his own style and musicianship in Roberto’s playing, loaning him his Stradivarius violin.

John’s funeral will be held at the Shrewsbury Crematorium on Wednesday 12 October at 2.45pm with refreshments after. We ask that anyone who would like to attend to please contact the family by email: aludlowreflex1@aol.com.
