Encounters Ensemble
In July, a group of NYO players met their counterparts from other national music organisations in the first ever NYMO (National Youth Music Organisations) Festival at Birmingham Town Hall.
Together they formed the Encounters Ensemble who, led by composer Brian Irvine, created a brand new piece drawing together the diverse vibes and characters of musicians from the National Youth Orchestra, National Youth Jazz Collective, National Youth Training Choir, South Asian Music Youth Orchestra, Pro Corda and Music for Youth.
In this short film you can see a little of the group’s encounter and ultimate performance. In the words of NYO trumpeter Sam Moffitt, ‘Once again the musical opportunities I have been lucky to experience have been staggering, especially meeting and working with other national ensemble members in the Encounters project, not to mention chilling with the enormous creative force that is Goldie at that same event.’
