NYO 2013 winter 2012

Thursday 5 January 7.30pm
Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Friday 6 January 7.30pm
Barbican Hall, London

While the rest of Britain polished off the leftovers from Christmas dinner, 165 young people came together in Oxfordshire to begin their journey together as NYO 2012. They awoke new energy in two landmark works: Elgar’s Cello Concerto and Walton’s spectacular Symphony No.1 and celebrations began with Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Hammered Out. The programme also saw the premiere of HandsFree, written for the orchestra by Anna Meredith, and choreographed by David Ogle, featuring beatboxing and body percussion. Watch a video of NYO performing the piece in the Metrocentre in Gateshead here.
