NYO Spring 2010
The countdown has begun for the NYO’s upcoming Spring concerts...
We are bringing together an extraordinary 175 young people from across the country for two landmark concerts in Gateshead and London. We reunite with boundlessly exuberant conductor Paul Daniel following the outstanding five-star reviews he achieved with the orchestra last Spring.
Join us to discover the awesome music of Edgard Varèse, one of the most thrilling voices in musical history. Inspired by his friend Debussy, Varèse unleashed dazzling new colours in the orchestral palette, creating vast musical canvases as exciting and action-packed as any Hollywood blockbuster you can see today. Let the inspirational young players of the National Youth Orchestra be your guides to these breathtaking musical worlds.
At Gateshead, we present the best of Varèse alongside masterworks by Debussy so you can discover for yourself the vivid connections between the composers. Entitled ‘Brave New Worlds’, a series of specially designed events from 5 to 16 April will enable you to get to know both composers and see different facets of the NYO in action ahead of our main concert. In London, we join the London Sinfonietta in presenting the complete music of Varèse as part of a festival that has already wowed Amsterdam and Paris. With an invigorating visual and lighting installation designed especially for our performance on 18 April, prepare to see the National Youth Orchestra in an exciting new light, headlining a much-anticipated cultural event. While the orchestra is hard at work preparing for the concerts, the Varèse media blitz has begun.
